Forster. Museum für Textil- und Industriegeschichte Lausitz
Forst (Lausitz) was an industrial center for centuries – and the Forster Museum of Textile and Industrial History Lausitz presents this heritage in a unique way. Textile production, coal mining, and everyday life can be experienced here through a variety of engaging exhibitions. At the partial opening in November 2025, visitors can look forward to special exhibitions and a diverse cultural program in the museum’s modern event hall.
A particular highlight is the “Schwarze Jule”, a historic steam tram that illustrates the former urban transport system in the first section of the permanent exhibition. With the complete opening at the end of 2026, the museum will expand to encompass around 1,600 square meters of exhibition space.
Textile history will remain a central focus – including the popular demonstration workshop and displays on the development of Forst (Lausitz) as a textile city. In addition, the museum will place greater emphasis on the region’s broader industrial heritage, especially brown coal mining, which was essential to the city’s textile boom.
The museum offers a modern exhibition concept that brings industrial and urban history vividly to life – a place well worth visiting again and again.
